A young jailed Logan ice addict has presented a sentencing nightmare for a magistrate, pleading guilty to 12 offences which variously breached a probation order, parole and a suspended sentence.

Crestmead man Mitchell William Greggor, 20, was arrested just before midnight on October 30 after leading police on an outrageous chase through the suburbs of Logan and on the Logan Motorway.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday heard Greggor was first detected by police at 10.30pm “speeding and driving in an erratic manner”.

A Polair helicopter began tracking Greggor on the Logan Motorway, at which point he turned off his headlights travelling in excess of 120 km/h.

About 10.50pm, police vehicles activated their sirens to intercept Greggor, leading him to speed further in an attempt to evade them, which he did by blasting through a red light.

He was only stopped about 11.20pm when police successfully deployed a tyre-deflation device.

Greggor fled, but was intercepted a short time later.

In the period between June 4 – October 30, 2020, Greggor committed three offences of driving while disqualified by a court order; two of breaching a bail condition; and one each of possessing dangerous drugs (ice), a restricted drug and a drug utensil (glass pipe); unlawful use of a motor vehicle; dangerous operation of a vehicle; and evading police.

The court heard Greggor’s offences variously breached probation, parole and a suspended sentence, leading to several rounds of submissions from police prosecutor Sgt Donna Cole and defence lawyer John Ide on how to structure a sentence, in light of the need to resentence him for the charges for which he was given probation and a suspended sentence.

Mr Ide told the court his client, who attended up to Year 11 at a Kingston school, had already spent several periods in custody prior to the current period on remand.

“His life over the past few years has been dominated by drug offending and ordinary decisions made while under the influence of drugs,” Mr Ide said.

Ultimately, Greggor was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment with court-ordered parole on June 20 to match up with his scheduled release per a Supreme Court sentence handed down on February 10.

His resentencing on the charges for which he was given probation and a suspended sentence were rolled into this global head sentence.

His driver’s licence was also disqualified for at least two years.
