IT’S the Logan school that has produced a number of the nation’s finest football players, but has never had the facilities to host a home game.
That is all about to change for Marsden State High School — that will officially open the doors to a $6 million sporting centre on August 18.
Once opened, the Centre of Excellence will be the training ground for budding football, volleyball, netball, futsal and basketball players.
It is a fitting structure to a school that has a phenomenal record of producing elite sporting talent.
NRL great Cameron Smith is part of Marsden’s alumni, as is Broncos players Jaydn Su’A and Patrick Mago, Titans’ Brenko Lee, Wallaby Caleb Timu and dual international Israel Folau.
Just three years ago, Melbourne Victory star Angela Beard was captaining the school.
“We’ve had a history of really strong sporting success,” school principal Andrew Peach said.
“So the opportunity for us to have a facility that reflects the ability and talent of the kids in the Logan community is a massive thing for us.”
Up until now, the school has not been able to hold home games.
But the new centre has four new change rooms that will give the school capacity to host competing schools.
Other features of the centre include a video analysis room, gym, recovery room and ice baths.
The centre will also allow the large school to run whole-school parades for the first time.
“We’ve never been able to hold a whole school parade based on numbers and space so we will now have the ability to do that,” he said.
