A MAN is being treated for burns to his feet after a fire gutted his Yatala home, killing his dog.

Firefighters said they were alerted to the blaze in a house behind Atlas House Removers

at 3.44am.

The gutted house, an old removable home occupied by one of the sons of the business owner, was behind the main house on the property.

The 25-year-old man was asleep when his mother noticed an orange glow from the second house.

She raced down and alerted her son and his dogs.

Firefighters said sadly a two-year-old pit bull was found dead.

The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital and treated for minor smoke inhalation and burns to his feet.

Power has been cut to the property and emergency accommodation has been arranged for the family of eight.

Logan House Fire Safety Network’s Louie Naumovski said it was a timely reminder to check smoke alarms are installed, operational and in working order.

“This house had none and if mum had not have been up to alert the son, this could have been a fatal fire,” he said.
