A GOLF club south of Brisbane is pushing a major change in the sport after opening an $800,000 day-night long-driving range.
No longer do avid golfers have to travel into Brisbane or the Gold Coast to practise shots after Meadowbrook Golf Club opened its state-of-the-art driving range to cater for those who like practising at night.
Club owner professional golfer and Australian Long Drive Champion Tom Linskey said the lights were “the best he had ever seen”.
“Until we set this up, there was no night-time facility between Victoria Park and Carrara on the Gold Coast,” Mr Linskey said. “Our junior program is growing like crazy from zero 12 months ago to 70 junior members now.
“We also have learn to play golf clinics every week for women as well as group or individual lessons available daily.”
Mr Linskey, who was Australia’s Long Drive Champion in 1977 and again as a senior in 2006, said the course also had “serious money spent on it” so it was now in top condition.
The new range is open from 6am to 9.30pm daily and an opening party will be held on Saturday.
