An aspiring police officer from Meadowbrook has found herself in court after assaulting cops during a drunken incident outside the Eagleby Tavern.

London Amelia Pauline Taape, 19, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday to serious assault of a police officer, obstruct police officer and commit public nuisance within licensed premises or in the vicinity of licenced premises.

The court heard police responded to reports of a woman assaulting a security guard outside the Eagleby Tavern at about 2am on June 26 last year.

The court heard a woman was arrested and placed in the rear of the police vehicle, at which stage Taape approached police and demanded the woman be released.

Police allege Taape attempted to open the door of the police vehicle and hit an officer in the chest when they directed her to move away.

The court heard she also kneed an officer in the genital area as they attempted to arrest her.

Taape’s lawyer told the court her client had no criminal history and described the incident as being “extremely out of character” for her.

“She accepts that she had consumed way too much alcohol. She’s extremely ashamed,” she said.

She said Taape graduated from Beenleigh State High School and has aspirations to enter the police force.

Magistrate Clare Kelly ordered Taape complete 40 hours of unpaid community service over a period of 12 months. She was also fined $400. No convictions were recorded.
