Logan’s answer to Steve Irwin, Glenn “Ozzie” Lawrence came to the rescue after being called on by Tanzen from Southside Snake Catchers.

“Police had to hold traffic to a stand still until the big girl made her way across the road towards the Police Beat,” he said.

“While en route, she decided to visit the neighbours and stopped in their front yard.

“I’ve met Daisy before — she’s an old girl and the locals know her too.

“While I was capturing her, a neighbour said they recognised her from being on their own property the week before.”

Ozzie, who was nominated for Logan Volunteer of the Year this week, said he had picked Daisy up less than two weeks ago from the Daisy Hill area, which is where she got her name.

The Logan Volunteer Awards will be presented at the Logan Entertainment Centre on September 26

Mr Lawrence moved to Logan in 1984 when he was seven and became obsessed with animals and reptiles in the area.

“I was, and still am, one of those who always stops to let that family of ducks cross the road or check the pouch of kangaroos killed on the roads.

“And, of course, I am always assisting and rescuing animals.”

He said he was deeply inspired by his hero Steve Irwin and began to pursue his goals of becoming a full-time Wildlife Warrior. and is now a snake catcher and relocator.

Since 2001, he has also coached children of all age groups in rugby league at Brothers Mustangs and Logan Brothers.
