Don't miss out on the headlines from Logan. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Good haircuts are not usually cheap and cheap haircuts are not usually good – but in Logan you can often get both a cheap and good haircut.
More than 490 people responded to our survey to find the Logan’s best barber and the top three were standout selections, offering quality service with added benefits including children’s prices, happy hour discounts and even freshly brewed coffee.
Of course, judges gave extra marks for good humour and sharp scissors.
Movember was a busy month for Jay and Dean Meyer from Razor Bros, who came third in the survey.
The enigmatic brothers have barber shops at Bushman Dr, Flagstone, which they opened in August, and also at Yarrabilba, where they have been successfully operating since 2018.
The pair got extra marks from judges for making their shops fun and comfortable places for everyone from children to women to get a quick trim.
One of the standout features is a massive black-and-white mural of R & B artists including Drake and Little Wayne.
Their shops are also popular because they cater for people from all walks of life.
Mum Sarah Tinker was impressed when she took her young son for a haircut.
“This was an amazing place to get my son’s hair cut — they did the best job,” she said.
“It was so great to have a friendly chat and they made my son feel so welcome by the way they spoke to him. I highly recommend this place and we will be back for sure.”
Another happy customer was Michele Davis who said the shop had a good atmosphere.
“I wasn’t sure if they’d do a ladies cut, but they welcomed me in. Really impressed.”
Second place went to X-Styles Hair Studio at Regents Park.
Owner Joanne Bell and her barber daughter Rhiannon Cherie Bell have been keeping customers happy since 2005, when they moved into the shop.
“People love coming here because of the atmosphere and my daughter loves to create a vibe and dresses up for different occasions such as Christmas and Halloween,” Joanne said.
“Some of our clients dress up too — so it’s a fun place to be.”
Bride Eliese Jones trusted the barber shop so much she got her hair done there for her big day along with her bridesmaids.
Logan’s top barber shop title went to Steve Promkhiew and Ally Huntley , who opened their Black Canvas barber shop in Carl Heck Boulevard, Windaroo, in August.
Ms Huntley said she was delighted to be chosen as Logan’s top barber after being in business for such a short time.
“It’s been an amazing time — especially with COVID, but we have done so well because there really was nowhere for men to go in the area before we opened here,” she said.
“We do a lot of fund raising and want to make sure we give back to the community.”
To celebrate their win, the barber shop is now considering holding a session for free haircuts.
