Loganlea State High School student Kelle-Ann Druery has won the prestigious K2 Basecamp Young Achiever Award at the Outdoors Queensland Awards.
This award recognises the efforts and achievements of an individual new to the outdoor sector; a student, young person or other making a change into the field.
Kelle is enrolled in the Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation at the school, and was nominated for the award, based on her leadership in the program, commitment to her studies, passion for the outdoors and showing a natural aptitude for leading and encouraging others.
Outdoor Recreation Subject Coordinator Nathan Watts said Kelle was a high-performing individual in the Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation.
“She consistently puts in her best effort and works hard to prove herself in the subject; demonstrating initiative and independence in her competencies,” he said.
Loganlea is the only school in the Logan region and among a small handful in the state to offer Outdoor Recreation as a subject.
Students have the opportunity to develop activity specific skills, such as canoeing and bushwalking, while also building their leadership capacity and appreciation of the natural world.
