A young woman, with a history of assaulting police, has faced court after forcing Logan trains to shut down for two hours when she brazenly climbed a 5m railway bridge.

Jaylene Woods, from Loganlea, pleaded guilty in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on September 29 to interfering with public transport, committing unregulated high-risk activities and serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm.

The court heard on August 30, 2021, the 22-year-old climbed the bridge at the intersection of Wembley Road and Ewing Road at Logan Central.

She gained access to the top of the embarkment and was standing on top of the railway bridge.

Police arrived at the scene and all trains were delayed for two hours, which caused financial loss and inconvenience to passengers, the court heard.

It took physical force to restrain Woods and she was taken into custody.

The court also heard on April 17, 2021 police arrived at Woods’ residence and she lashed out and kicked a female officer in the foot.

The officer sprained their ankle badly and had been unable to work or exercise.

Prosecution tendered photos of the injuries to the court and said the officer suffered due to the offender’s behaviour.

The court heard Woods became upset, frustrated and acted out in a spell of rage and does not remember kicking the officer.

Magistrate Mark Bamberry said normally this behaviour would send a defendant to jail.

“These are very serious offences and police have a very difficult job to do,” he said.

“The police officer has a young child, hasn’t been able to work or exercise and the offending was worse because the officer was putting herself out there to help others.”

Woods was sentenced to 12 months in prison with immediate parole release and ordered to pay $1000 in restitution to the officer.
