A Loganholme construction worker has blamed “the voices in his head” for a severe attack on his neighbour’s three vehicles during a drug relapse earlier this year.

Jason-Lee Bierton, 31, pleaded guilty to three charges of wilful damage and one count of breaching a bail condition at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday April 17 2024 via videolink.

A police prosecutor told the court Bierton had a “lengthy and violent” criminal history.

The court heard on January 30, 2024 Bierton seriously smashed three of his neighbour’s cars parked in the driveway.

“He has a history for wilful damage to property offences,” the prosecutor said.

“There were nine images in relation to the wilful damage offences.

“A period of imprisonment is in range,” she said.

A lawyer said Bierton had been using methamphetamine from the age of 17.

“His criminal history does speak of someone with a violent past,” a lawyer said.

“He has schizophrenia and had a relapse with methamphetamine at the time of the offending.

“He tells me at the time of the offending he could hear voices telling him to do it and he was not coping.

“He believed the voices of his neighbours were telling him to smash stuff,” he said.

Magistrate Gary Finger declared Bierton’s 95 days in custody as time already served.

“I take into account the circumstance of each of these offences and that you’re remorseful, as well as your psychological condition,” Mr Finger said.

“You just keep taking your medication and don’t end up back here,” he said.

Bierton was sentenced to serve eight months imprisonment with a parole release date of April 17, 2024.

Convictions were recorded.
