'Blood and guts': Truck driver gets away with spilling carcasses on major roadways

Logan parents doing the afternoon school run were faced with a shocking and unusual sight yesterday, driving through the “blood and guts” as dead chickens spilt onto roads in an unfortunate cargo mishap.

The AJ Bush & Sons Truck was driving southbound on the Mount Lindesay Highway in Browns Plains when police were alerted at about 3.45pm to animal meat and products being dropped along the road and causing traffic chaos.

“Animal fat and meat went everywhere, it was a tricky clean-up in those lanes as the water spread the fat,” a police spokeswoman said.

“There were some traffic delays, police were called to help with the traffic.”

Flagstone resident, Tyson Major, filmed the incident as he travelled behind the truck and said the mess and stench were unbearable.

“I was sitting behind it at the lights coming off the Logan Motorway,” Mr Major said.

“He didn’t have his load covered and every time he accelerated or braked the load (of dead chickens) was coming out the top.

“The smell was unbelievable.

“A couple of people have been messaging wanting the company‘s details for their cleaning and detailing bills.”

Another local resident, Natasha Kircher, said her partner was driving his truck behind the driver responsible for the mess and saw the driver at one stage pull over at a vacant lot across from Olley's Orange Country Market at North Maclean.

Ms Kircher said the driver left behind some chicken caucuses in nearby bushland before taking off, followed by a colleague in a ute.

“I witnessed him leaving Olleys, no cover on the front and a cover, part covering the back,” she said.

“He took off southbound with it sloshing very close to the top, the ute was behind him and a chicken fell off as he was turning out.

Ms Kircher said there needed to be more done to ensure regulations are met when it comes to securing loads on trucks.

“They don’t appear to care about safety,” she said.

Many other witnesses have taken to social media to share their take on what happened.

“That’s putrid,” one person wrote.

“My husband came around the roundabout near Chambers Flat Rd in his Western Star and hit the offal and the whole truck slid sideways,” wrote another.

“So dangerous and the truck now smells disgusting.”
