Three Logan war veterans will mark Remembrance Day with special medals presented to them and their families for their efforts in World War II.

Warrant Officer Bert Cox of the Royal Australian Air Force, James Skelton who served in the Royal Australian Airforce and Claude Ryan who served in Darwin, will hold their medals during a minute of silence at 11am.

Mr Cox was born in Murwillumbah in June 1924 and enlisted in the RAAF on October 8, 1942 and served until the January 1946.

He undertook wireless training, gunnery training and went to Navigation School in Pyree.

He was posted to New Guinea and served as a Flight sergeant, wireless operator and flew liberators out of Darwin and Morotai.

Mr Skelton was born in 1926 and was in the Royal Australian Airforce in the ground equipment maintenance section, known as Gems. He also served at an air base repair depot near Charters Towers towards the end of WWII and in Darwin from 1948-49 and Malaya from 1950-51.

His son Jim Skelton Jnr said he was also involved in the Malaysian Confrontation and also saw combat during that time.

Mr Ryan enlisted in the army in 1941 and served in Darwin. He was involved in building gun positions to protect the borders and served during the Darwin bombings.

Remembrance Day in Logan will be a subdued affair this year due to COVID-19 but there will be a ceremony at Logan Village Memorial and wreaths laid in Beenleigh, Springwood, Carbrook and Logan Central, where NAIDOC services will also be held this week.

Logan City Historical Museum, which turned 30 this week, also has a special display with much of the memorabilia from Logan historical researcher Mic Noble, who played a leading role in setting up a series of hundreds of crosses at memorials last year.

Remembrance Day services will start at the RSL in Logan Village at 10.30am at the Camp Cable Monuments in the front of the RSL grounds at Ollie and Merve Musch Park, Quinsey Creek Rd.
