A kiwi teen who went on a robbery crime spree, blamed the friends he made in Logan for his law-breaking and wants to go back to New Zealand.

A teenager who committed three burglaries said he got involved with the wrong crowd before being told by a magistrate to go back to New Zealand.

Jaidyn Foster, 19, from Logan Reserve pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court to three counts of entering a dwelling and committing indictable offences and one count of possession of a knife.

The court heard between March 10 this year and March 13, Foster and a group of friends broke into three buildings in Hillcrest and Tanah Merah.

Police intercepted them at a shopping centre and found a stolen laptop in their vehicle.

Foster, who was 18 at the time, was also found in possession of a knife.

The court heard Foster moved to Queensland from New Zealand in 2021 and got involved with the wrong crowd.

He previously had no criminal history.

The court heard Foster had limited family support in Queensland and his offending was similar to that of typical juvenile offending except he was 18.

Magistrate Kilner said Foster may have been led astray by bad influences but he was ultimately responsible for his actions.

“It’s all right to say you got tied up in the wrong crowd but quite frankly you are an adult, you knew what you were doing was wrong,” he said.

“You were quite capable of backing away but nevertheless you chose to engage in this behaviour on more than one occasion.

“People have experienced drama and trauma from having their property broken into.”

Magistrate Kilner said Foster needed support around him.

“I think the best thing for you is to go back to New Zealand where you have some family support.”

He received an 18 months suspended prison sentence, was disqualified from having a driver’s license for 12 months and forfeited the knife.
