A Logan man will remain behind bars after making more than 400 abusive phone calls to a woman from prison, using a fake name to gain access.
The 31-year old appeared via video link from custody and pleaded guilty to 17 charges of contravening a domestic violence order at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 16, 2024.
The court heard he contacted a woman from a Brisbane prison to abuse her verbally on 419 occasions during a six month period.
Police prosecutor Kim Murphy said he called the woman names, including a c**t, a dirty dog, a mongrel, a c*m rag and a f**king c*ck sucker.
“The phone calls were made while he was in custody for breaching a previous court order,” she said.
“(Name) made 419 phone calls to the complainant between June 2023 and December 2023,” she said.
Defence lawyer Nicole Conlan said the man had a disadvantaged upbringing and was exposed to violence as a child.
“He has written a letter of apology to the court,” she said.
“He has pleaded guilty at an early stage.”
Magistrate Terry Duroux said the language used by the defendant was “the worst” he had heard in a long time.
“This offending is not at the lower end of the scale,” Mr Duroux said.
“These offences cost the community for the victim’s hospital and mental health treatments.
“This happens in prisons too often were people are using fake names and making contact.
“You are old enough to know better.”
The man was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with a parole eligibility date of June 12, 2024.
Convictions were recorded.
