Police are investigating how two women, one a cleaner at Park Ridge’s Parklands Christian College, got across the Queensland border after visiting Melbourne and Sydney.

The two women, both 19, failed to self-isolate after returning from Melbourne on flights VA 863 and VA 977 which stopped in Sydney.

The pair have spent eight days in the community, with the main places being Acacia Ridge, Park Ridge, Logan and Springfield.

Park Ridge College released a statement saying that the cleaner, who is now in Princess Alexandra Hospital, had limited contact with students.

It has been confirmed that one of the two women who tested positive for COVID-19 also ate at a Thai restaurant in a busy Ipswich shopping centre on Sunday night.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said all Metro South aged care facilities will be closed along with shopping centres for at least 48 hours while teams contact staff and conduct tracing.

Dr Young said her officers would be in the Logan area interviewing testing and asked everyone to tell the truth if questioned.

Logan City Council is standing by its earlier statement that no civic services or facilities will be affected by the outbreak of two COVID-19 cases south of Brisbane.

However, mayor Darren Power said some businesses would be closed for two days while contact tracing was taking place.

He said the council was taking instruction from the state.

“We have been advised they have taken every measure to trace the spread and they are treating those areas and I believe those areas are closed for two days while that treatment takes place,” Cr Power said.

“All council facilities and operating areas are continuing and we have no leads of contamination on any of our sites.”

Cr Power said he had not been in contact with the Logan Hospital and was unsure where there would be any extra COVID-19 testing clinics.

State health officials were in the city this afternoon testing people and setting up temporary COVID clinics as well as visiting the Park Ridge Shopping Centre and other shops in the area.

Police are also in Logan as intensive contact checking is being carried out in the Park Ridge and Browns Plains shopping areas.

Cr Power told this morning’s council meeting he was confident Queensland Health was doing everything to ensure people’s safety and reiterated comments that no council facilities or services would be affected.

He said he was confident with the state measures which included closing the Park Ridge school and conducting intensive contact tracing.

There was no mention of whether council pools, libraries or other facilities would be shut.

“Council is committed to supporting Queensland Health as a lead agency responsible for responding to COVID-19 and will provide support as required,” Cr Power told this morning’s meeting.

“Our top priority is the health and safety of our community, customers and staff. I can confirm there is no impact on council services or facilities.”
