GAMERS were glued to their screens last week when Logan lad Lachlan Power competed in the Fortnite World Cup Pro Am, held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre.
Power, known to gamers simply as Lachlan, was competing for a slice of $3 million and was up against the world’s top 50 players.
The players are paired with 50 celebrities to battle it out with winners getting the right to donate their prize money to a charity of their choice.
Lachlan, son of Logan City Council adviser Darren Power, came ninth out of the 50 teams and won about $60,000 which he promptly donated his share to a Brisbane’s children’s hospital.
He teamed up with Cody Walker, brother of Paul Walker, star of the The Fast and the Furious movies, killed in a car accident in 2013 before finishing The Fast and The Furious 7.
After Paul’s death, his brother Cody filled in to finish making the movie.
Last year, Lachlan was paired up with Canadian actor Ezra Miller, who played Flash in the marvel movie.
Proud dad Darren Power said his son, who chalked up 10 million YouTube subscribers this year, had done many appearances for Make a Wish Foundation to bring some joy to sick children.
During the LA competition, Lachlan wore his Fortnite elf “skin”, which has never been released and is considered very rare.
It was the second championship held by developer Epic Games and bodes well for next month’s $30 million World Cup event in New York.
