A doctor alleged to have sexually assaulted two patients at a Logan medical centre on six occasions has had his bail altered to allow him to continue seeing patients, although he will only be allowed to deal with male patients.
The Calamvale man in his forties, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged on December 29 last year with six counts of sexual assault, all of which are alleged to have occurred between April 6 – November 26 last year at a Logan medical centre.
Police will allege the sexual assaults involved inappropriate touching of the patients, attempted undressing, and the rubbing of the doctor’s erect penis against the patients’ bodies.
On at least one of these occasions, police allege a “wet patch” was seen by the patient on the front of the doctor’s pants.
In Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday, defence lawyer Paul Handman said the charges against his client would be contested.
In light of the lengthy times involved in contested charges, Mr Handman successfully sought a variation on the doctor’s police bail which prohibited him from consulting with patients.
Now, the doctor will be able to continue to see male patients only.
The doctor’s passport has been seized.
His charges will next be mentioned on March 10.
