From tomorrow, the tips and recycling facilities at Browns Plains, Beenleigh, Carbrook, Greenbank and Logan Village will be closed to all but essential waste and council vehicles, such as waste collection trucks, commercial waste contractors and waste from businesses.

A council spokesman said the closures came after a busy period of above-average patronage at the city’s tips and recycling centres where some members of the public were not adhering to the Federal Government’s latest guidelines on social distancing.

The new rules will not affect existing household and commercial waste and recycling bin collection services which will continue as usual.

The Beenleigh Waste and Recycling Facility does not accept commercial waste and will be temporarily closed with no access to the public.

The Logan Recycling Market at Heritage Park was closed on March 20 and will remain shut until further notice.

“During the temporary closure, domestic waste vouchers will not be accepted as a form of payment,” the council said.

“Commercial fees will apply to all customers. Residents may engage a waste collection or skip bin service from a commercial service provider to dispose of additional waste while the temporary closures are in place.”

The temporary closures are in line with council’s bid to stem the spread of coronavirus and support the Federal Government’s move to keep people at home.

The council said the decision to close the waste and recycling facilities was not taken lightly.

With many now working from home, residents are also reminded to ensure bins are on the footpath for collection are not blocked by cars.

The public is also reminded that hefty fines can be enforced for illegal dumping.

Council is also looking to ensure that the number of people attending the City

Administration Building, in Wembley Road, Logan Central, is compliant with the latest

Federal Government rules on mass gatherings and social distancing.

From tomorrow, Wednesday, April 1, customers wishing to access the Customer Service Centre will be required to make an appointment on 3412 3412.

The Beenleigh and Jimboomba customer service centres are now closed until further
