LOGAN residents have been put on notice that their suburbs are some of the southeast’s heaviest infected with the deadly coronavirus.

State Government data released this morning shows that nearly a third of all active cases in the state are in the Metro South Health District, which includes Logan and its hospital.
More than 81 cases of the virus are active in the Metro South Health region, making Logan a major hotspot for the virus.

There were 42 cases recorded in Logan with eight acquired locally.
Authorities said they had no known sources of contact for six of those.
Logan’s count was lower than Moreton Bay Regional Council where there were 95 cases with most of those from international travel and well behind Gold Coast where there were 189 cases.
Two cases in Logan were contracted interstate and one is still under investigation.
Across the state there are 280 active cases with 76 of those in Metro North.
To date, there have been 248 confirmed cases in the southern area, with 167 of those people now recovered from the illness.
There were more than 12,000 self-quarantining notices issued in the Metro South Health area with 632 people still in lockdown.
Queensland Health concern about the future spread of the virus across Logan resulted in the southside’s first free coronavirus respiratory clinic opening at Cornubia last week.
Logan Hospital was the first in the southeast to publicly launch a fever clinic on March 10.
Concern about the disease’s spread in Logan followed a carpark “hoon gathering” at Meadowbrook Hungry Jack’s on March 24.
Meadowbrook was also singled out as a place for possible coronavirus outbreaks as it is home to the hospital, Logan TAFE and Griffith University.
Despite police being called and issuing fines to three drivers, a second car rally was held on April 5 at Rochedale, where 58 fines were issued.
The two incidents led Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll to put on extra police in parts of Logan including Yarrabilba, where Polair was also called in last week before an alleged gunman was arrested.
Police said residents confined to small-lot housing with small backyards during the coronavirus were finding it social difficult.
