A Logan teenager’s future career as a nurse is in jeopardy after she was sentenced for trafficking in MDMA and possessing a commercial quantity of the drug.

Loganholme woman Lily Rhianna Ryan, 19, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Tuesday to four drug offences, including trafficking, possessing a commercial quantity of MDMA, and two counts of possessing things used in connection with drug trafficking.

The court heard Ryan, a student nurse, trafficked in the drug for three months between November 27, 2019 and her arrest on February 27 last year.

Her offending came to light following a search warrant being executed on the residence she shares with her mother and sister.

The search uncovered 12.5g of substance containing 9g pure MDMA, a variety of drug paraphernalia including gel capsules, digital scales and clipseal bags, and a mobile phone.

Analysis of the mobile phone revealed Ryan had 10 customers whom she supplied a total of 41g of MDMA to.

Ryan told police the commercial quantity of MDMA was for personal use and denied trafficking in the drug.

She denied being motivated by profit, although Ryan’s communications contradicted this, the court heard.

At one point, she told an associate, “I want money, not feelings”.

On another occasion, she said, “I work hard and risk a lot of things” to get money from trafficking.

Defence counsel Emily Lewsey told the court Ryan had been unable to complete her last semester in her nursing diploma due to the suspension of her Blue Card.

“She hopes once these matters are finalised she will be able to show cause,” Ms Lewsey said.

In the meantime, Ryan had been working part-time cleaning her sister’s beauty salon and receiving government payments, the court heard.

It was also submitted on Ryan’s behalf that she was in an abusive relationship with a man whose drug and alcohol abuse was the “catalyst” for Ryan’s offending.

Justice Martin Daubney sentenced Ryan to two years’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for a period of three years.
