A Logan video editor and programmer has fronted court after he was acting aggressively to a man at a local pub who had previously attacked him, prompting a magistrate to warn against a revenge attack.

Lachlan Nugent, 19, of Loganholme, faced Beaudesert Magistrates Court on Tuesday (September 14) where he pleaded guilty to public nuisance at the Logan Village Hotel.

The court heard that about 10.45pm on June 11 police were patrolling near the hotel when they saw Nugent acting aggressively.

Police Prosecutor, Snr-Sgt Andrew Bejerring, told the court police also saw another man standing in a threatening manner, with clenched fists, in front of security guards.

“Police believed the male was about to assault the security officers,” Snr-Sgt Bejerring said.

They restrained him after a brief struggle.

Nugent then stepped in and aggressively obstructed the police officers.

The court heard Nugent works as a video editor and programmer for a creative agency, and that the incident was aggravated by a previous alleged attack.

“My client was severely beaten about a year ago. Had his head stomped on and has a reasonable scar from it. He has recurring headaches,” his lawyer said.

“The fellow who did that is who he ran into that night at the pub.

“He was there with a friend and just happened upon this fellow, who beat him a year ago.”

The court heard Nugent was annoyed with police because his alleged attacker was never charged.

“And he’s now got these ongoing health symptoms and headaches which plague him and apparently are getting worse,” his lawyer said.

“He’s seen the fellow…he’s burred up…and that’s where the aggression came from.”

He said Nugent now understood his behaviour was inappropriate.

Magistrate Tracy Mossop warned him that two wrongs do not make a right.

“What happened to you (Nugent) was yes, okay, tragic,” she said.

“But let’s say this really got out of hand and you ended up slogging this old mate who’d done what he did to you and he fell over, he hit his head, and he died.

“Then you’d go to jail because one punch can kill and you’ve killed him.

“Is it worth it? Is it worth wasting your life?

“No. You’ve got to put things into context.

“Revenge is not the way to go about living your life.

“Forgiveness is… putting this behind you so that you can become a better person.”

Ms Mossop fined him a total of $800. No conviction was recorded.
