A young Logan woman who drank one litre of goon and smoked cannabis at a friend’s house bit a police officer at Logan Hospital who was trying to assist her, a court has heard.

Beenleigh woman Kirrilee Lynette Margaret Stokes, 22, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Friday to a single charge of serious assault of a police officer by biting.

The court heard the assault occurred on the evening of January 25 this year.

Stokes and a friend were at the friend’s house, drinking heavily and smoking cannabis.

Police prosecutor Sgt Donna Kay told the court Stokes had drunk one litre of goon when the friend’s intoxicated mother came home, precipitating an incident where police were called.

As a result of this, Stokes was transported to Logan Hospital at Meadowbrook for an Emergency Examination Authority under the Mental Health Act 2016, where the assault occurred.

The court heard the bite did not break the skin and did not require the officer to take any time off work.

Defence solicitor Penny Hallam told the court the offending was “out of character” for her client, who couldn’t recall the incident at the hospital.

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll placed her on 12 months’ probation.

No conviction was recorded.
