Kingston man Tarion Raymond Duncan, 20, steals $13k in jewellery while on ice

A two-and-a-half-year suspended jail sentence hanging over his head for grievous bodily harm did little to stop a teen from stealing more than $13K in jewellery, a court has heard.

The surprising history of meth

A man with a history of violent offending who stole more than $13,000 in jewellery while on ice won’t hand back a cent in restitution after an insurer was left to foot the bill.

Kingston’s Tarion Raymond Duncan, 20, pleaded guilty to a string of offences yesterday (June 29) at Beenleigh Magistrates Court, including entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence and driving a motor vehicle while over the middle alcohol limit.

The court heard on January 10 last year Duncan was high on ice when he broke into a home with an accomplice.

He managed to steal a “significant amount of jewellery” despite being disturbed by an alarm.

Police prosecutor Sgt Rochelle Paz Landim said RACQ Insurance was left with a $13,020.00 bill.

The court heard the burglary took place while Duncan was on a two-and-a-half-year suspended prison sentence for causing grievous bodily harm while adversely affected.

On October 20, 2018 Duncan rode a motorcycle while drunk in Kingston.

When a resident complained about the noise Duncan threw down his bike, grabbed the man by the collar and punched him so hard it broke his eye socket.

Duncan was yesterday sentenced for driving while drunk for that incident but sentenced for the assault in the District Court at a previous hearing.

Defence solicitor Emma Kearney said the offending occurred while her client struggled with a meth addiction, which he had since controlled.

Ms Kearney said Duncan was extremely remorseful and had made full admissions to police.

Currently working a casual job in hospitality, Duncan had experience in tiling and plastering and had moved in with his mother.

Duncan was sentenced to 15 months’ probation and disqualified from driving for two years.

No conviction was recorded, nor was any restitution ordered to be paid.
