A young Logan mum-of-three was detected by Woodford prison authorities with up to $18,000 worth of drugs hidden between her buttocks as she tried to visit her sister’s boyfriend, a court has heard.
Eagleby woman Keah Harris, 23, pleaded guilty in Brisbane District Court on Monday to a single count of aggravated supply of a Schedule 2 dangerous drug.
The court heard the offence occurred on March 15 last year at Woodford Correctional Centre with Harris’ intended target being her sister’s boyfriend.
Prison authorities searched an “emotional” Harris upon entry, leading to a strip-search which uncovered 91 Buprenorphine strips, used to treat withdrawal symptoms, hidden between her buttocks.
The court heard the value of the strips behind bars was between about $13,000 up to $18,200.
It was submitted on behalf of Harris, who had no prior criminal history, she “felt pressure” to smuggle the drugs into prison and received no direct benefit from her having done so.
The court heard Harris was a stay-at-home mother-of-three, who currently lived with her partner, the father of her youngest child, who is aged just 12 weeks.
She was placed on two years’ probation with no conviction recorded.
