Joshua Hodder: Perfumed pilferer’s $2500 Chemist Warehouse fragrance heist

NAMED: A Logan father-of-two has been sentenced to prison for a series of stealing and fraud offences committed across Greater Brisbane.

A Kingston father and convicted burglar who stole thousands of dollars worth of fragrances from Chemist Warehouse was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday.

Joshua Raymond Hodder, 34, pleaded guilty to 25 offences committed between January and March, including two counts of entering a premises to steal, 16 counts of fraud and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The court heard Hodder, a father-of-two, was struggling with an addiction to methamphetamines, heroin and speed when he came into possession of several stolen bank cards on January 31 at Coopers Plains and used them to dishonestly gain financial advantage.

Hodder used the card to withdraw $1000 of cash, in addition to buying items at stores in Acacia Ridge, Oxley, Durack, Archerfield and Coopers Plains.

According to police prosecutor Tim Wise, the most serious of Hodder’s current slew of offences involved thefts from Chemist Warehouse at Beenleigh.

The court heard Hodder worked with an accomplice to steal $1500 worth of fragrances on February 27, then stole a further $1000 when he entered the store alone on March 22.

Hodder told police he intended to resell the fragrances to make some cash.

A few days later, Hodder was found driving a silver Dodge which was one of several vehicles stolen from Sexton Wholesale Cars at Slacks Creek.

Hodder has a lengthy criminal history, having been sentenced to prison for robberies in 2011 and 2012, as well as an attempted arson in 2017.

The defence counsel told the court Hodder came from a disadvantaged background on the Gold Coast and had begun living on the streets at just 13-years-old, when he left the home of his grandmother and dropped out of Nerang State High School.

He has been held on remand at the Brisbane Correctional Centre.

He was today sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with immediate parole.
