A court has heard how a Logan man was held responsible for an attack that hospitalised a young boy, despite never laying a finger on him.

The “stupid” decision to drive a group of teenagers to a premeditated fight has landed one young Logan man with more than 100 days in custody.

Jordon Leisinger, 22, appeared via videolink from prison to plead guilty to three charges at the Beenleigh District Court on Thursday.

The charges included assault occasioning bodily harm while in company, common assault and threatening violence.

The court heard Leisinger was hanging out with a group of juveniles on August 10, 2019 when they told him they wanted to “touch up” another group of young boys camping near Bahrs Scrub.

Leisinger, who grew up in Mackay and was 20-years-old at the time, agreed to drive them for the small sum of $20.

They piled into Leisinger’s mother’s car and travelled to a small mountain.

Leisinger waited in the car as the group, who cannot be named due to their young age, started trekking up the mountain towards the campsite.

There, they found a 15-year-old boy and beat him severely, punching him in the face until he lost consciousness and fell to the ground.

The attack continued as the boy lay in the dirt, with the offenders kicking, hitting and stomping on his head.

The attackers then turned their attention to a nearby tent, where a 14-year-old and 17-year-old boy were hiding.

They jumped on the tent with the boys inside and when the 14-year-old tried to run away he was pushed to the ground and robbed of his gold necklace and shoes.

The 17-year-old was threatened with further violence if he did not give the boys his wallet, jacket and iPhone.

Fearing for his safety, the victim complied and the attack ended, 25 minutes from when it began.

Emergency services were called to the scene and the 15-year-old boy was transported to Logan Hospital with significant bruising and kept overnight for observation.

Though there is no allegation Leisinger directly participated in the violence, he was deemed liable for the assault.

“One might think without his agreeing to drive for $20 this might not have happened,” said Judge Craig Chowdhury.

“(He was) the oldest, (he) should have said, ‘Don’t be stupid, I’m not driving you anywhere’.

“It was just gratuitous violence.”

Leisinger’s lawyer said her client suffered from a significant methamphetamine addiction at the time of the offence.

The court heard his young co-offenders were cautioned under the provisions of the youth justice act.

Leisinger was granted bail, but then failed to surrender to the court on several occasions, leading to his arrest on January 16.

He has spent the last 103 days on remand.

Judge Chowdhury sentenced Leisinger to 12 months probation, convictions were recorded.
