John Paul College students William Aspeling in year 10 who plays with the Wynnum Cricket Club, and year 9 students Caden Careswell, from the Gold Coast Dolphins Cricket Club, and Balian Herd from the Toombul Cricket Club scored spots in the teams.
The Taverners competition, run by Queensland Cricket, operates under Premier Cricket standards and provides a pathway for players between junior community cricket and senior premier grade competitions.
Players are scouted from affiliate community clubs to participate and compete at the highest level in the state.
The competition plays a key role in forming the Queensland Under 176 State Challenge squad.
The trio was given the opportunity to try out for the team through the college’s newly introduced Cricket Academy program, which aims to develop a new generation of professional athletes ready to compete at an elite level.
John Paul College deputy principal Mark Zietsch said the athleticism and professionalism of the boys had paid off.
“What an amazing achievement,” he said.
“It’s exciting to see our students pursuing their dreams and talents in an elite sporting competition such as Lord Taverners.”
The Lord’s Taverners competition commences at the end of September and continues through until the finals during November and December.
