John Paul College at Daisy Hill was identified as a finalist in the Australian Education Awards in four categories including School Principal of the Year in the non-government section.
The school, which has 830 primary school students and 886 secondary students, is also a finalist in the best Primary School Principal of the Year (non-government) category.
The other two categories the college hopes to win are the Best Co-Curricular Program and the Best Professional Learning Program.
The college, which scored one of Queensland’s highest NAPLAN results last year with two OP1 scores, did not enter the national in 2019.
Principal Karen Spiller said it was an honour to be a finalist in the Principal of the Year category alongside her colleague Lindsay McQuattie who is in the running for Primary School Principal of the Year.

Mrs Spiller said she had high hopes the college’s professional learning program for teachers would be a standout at the awards.
“It is highly regarded and a clear standout for these nominations along with the extensive co-curricular program, which is made up of over 65 ensembles and choirs, 210 sporting teams and activities, and community care and outreach program for students,” she said.
“As educators and leaders, we put our heart and soul into students, staff and the college to provide the best opportunities and pathways possible,” Mrs Spiller said.
“To be a national finalist gives us that extra spring to know we are making some great strides in education.
“Our Deans of Pedagogy have been working hard to build a robust professional learning platform for our teachers to flourish, learn and be challenged.”
John Paul College is one of Queensland’s largest and most progressive independent, coeducational schools, and is an ecumenical kindergarten to Year 12 college with a boarding village and international college.
