A massive industrial estate in the heart of Logan has been touted as a job bonanza with expectations it will create up to 6000 positions as businesses open up at the currently vacant site.
When completed, the $1.5 billion Crestmead Logistics Estate, will be one of Queensland’s largest industrial projects covering 157ha and offering 650,000sq m of warehousing, business, logistics and manufacturing space.
It will be developed over the next five years by Pointcorp.
The first stage, which is 36 hectares, has been sold to Singapore-based Mapletree Investments for $90million for its $440 million logistics park, spanning 200,000sq m.
It will be completed in December.
The 6000 jobs are estimated by the developer Pointcorp over the life of the project and would include construction, manufacturing, logistics and transport employment.
There will also be a range of commercial tenancies.
The project, on the corner of Green and Clarke Roads, will add to an existing 170,000sq m of commercial activity under way or planned for the city in the next year.
Logan mayor Darren Power said the nine-stage project was a “game-changer” for southeast Queensland.
“Our city is facing economic challenges like many others around the country with COVID-19 impacts and this sends a clear message that Logan is open for business.”
Cr Power said Logan was punching above its weight and was establishing itself as a hub for major transport and logistics.
