A Redlands teen was caught in the act by police doing graffiti at an abandoned building in Logan, with paint on his hands and cans on the ground, a court has heard.

Beenleigh Magistrates Court heard on Thursday, November 23 that Jett Cooper Tippett was painting graffiti in Cornubia on August 17.

The 19-year-old Redlands man entered the house with a friend and started spray painting and tagging the walls.

The court heard Tippett painted a mushroom on one of the walls.

Police were called to the scene and found cans on the ground as well as paint on Tippett’s hands.

He pleaded guilty to one count of enter dwelling and committing an indictable offence.

Police prosecutor Kalinda Cheung said Tippett had no criminal history.

“The offending is similar to a graffiti charge but he has been charged for entering the premises,” she said.

The court heard Tippett wrote a letter of remorse to the court and his character references stated he was a trustworthy, reliable man.

Magistrate Patrina Clohessy said any act of vandalism was serious.

“This is quite a serious charge and you committed an act of vandalism,” she said.

“Young people make mistakes but can learn from their behaviour.

“For this reason I will exercise my discretion to not record a conviction.”

Tippett was fined $350 and no conviction was recorded.
