The court heard police were conducting patrols along Alfred St, Fortitude Valley and stopped Haaring, who was sitting in a blue Toyota Yaris.

Checks revealed he was wanted on an arrest warrant issued on June 11, 2020.

Police searched Haaring’s car and found two glass jars of clear liquid containing butanediol and butenoic acid.

The court heard Dodds had been heavily addicted to GHB at the time and those substances were related to that.

Police also found 21 identification cards in his car that belonged to other people, including drivers’ licences and Medicare cards, along with four laptops and a knife.

They also found two clip seal bags containing 55g of crystal powder, which was later revealed to be a cutting agent.

The court heard Haaring referred to the powder as “fake meth” during his interview with police.

He said he had sold some of it to another person for $270 under the guise that it was meth on June 10, 2020, the court heard.

Police found a photo on his phone of Haaring packaging the white substance into smaller clip seal bags.

The court heard Haaring had a criminal history and was on parole and a suspended sentence at the time of the offence.

Haaring’s lawyer told the court his client was introduced to speed at 16 and ecstasy at 17 and soon “got hooked” to those drugs.

He said at the time of the offending Haaring was heavily addicted to GHB and took 4ml doses of the drug every few hours.

After his time in custody, he was able to break his addiction and moved to Clifton Beach, Cairns, to live with his parents.

He was sentenced to six months imprisonment suspended for two years.
