Southside shoppers have been surprised by the reopening of a new bank branch inside a Logan shopping centre.
While other retail banks including CBA and ANZ have shut the doors to branches in Beenleigh, NAB opened a new branch at the Hyperdome late last month.
St George and CUA branches have shut in the centre over the past year.
The branch has been popular with many travelling from Beenleigh, Eagleby, Holmview and Windaroo to do to their banking at the outlet.
However, customers have reported long waiting lines for those hoping to speak with the few teller staff and disappointment with no after-hours facility.
The Hyperdome is also forging ahead to cater for those who love a homewares bargain with the popular Spotlight Creative discount store set to open inside the centre next month.
That will be on top of the latest addition to the centre’s restaurants at the Piazza when the NSW-based chain Rashays opens another of its popular diners.
It will be the second southside Spotlight Creative discount homewares store within a 5km radius with the larger outlet at Slacks Creek still trading.
The discount store’s opening confirms the craze for cheap homewares across the southeast with the shopping centre already home to Choice Discount Variety, Dusk, Ishka and the Reject Shop.
Rashays, which started out in NSW in 1998, will open at the Piazza, deserted after the exit of many favourites including long-time dining staple Sizzler last year.
Its menu includes chicken with creamy mushroom sauce and the perennial chicken schnitzel, with special deals expected during opening week.
Hyperdome centre manager Brian Turner said Spotlight Creative would add to a dynamic retail mix at the centre.
“In addition to Spotlight Creative, as well as NAB and Elegant Eyebrows which both opened
recently, we are looking forward to welcoming a number of other retailers to the centre, including Rashays who will take up space in the Piazza,” he said.
Mr Turner said it was still too early to determine what would replace the popular nearby Foodworks store on Bryants Rd, a site which is also owned by state government’s QIC, which owns the Hyperdome.
