The centre, one of the oldest and largest in southeast Queensland, remained open this morning with management telling people it was safe to shop.

But anyone with a cough has been told to stay out after shoppers took to social media to complain about the lack of social distancing on the weekend.

Thousands of shoppers piled on to social media after the announcement, many to air grievances about the lack of social distancing.

Mum of two Bec Alchin said the centre was packed on Saturday and social distancing rules not in play.

“Maybe you (centre management) could check CCTV vision from noon on Saturday, in the food court area and work out a better flow system to see what I’m talking about,” she wrote.

Centre manager Brian Turner said high-grade disinfectant was being used to clean the common areas and amenities such as toilets.

Stores that remained closed for cleaning are Best & Less, where the infected person visited on Wednesday between 3.15pm and 4.03pm.

Others included Kmart visited between 4.05pm and 4.29pm, The Reject Shop, the Footlocker and Platypus Shoes.

Mr Turner said those retailers were working with Queensland Health to determine the steps that needed to be taken, which may include undertaking additional deep cleaning within their individual tenancies.

“We are working closely with Queensland Health and the identified retailers and will follow Queensland Health’s advice with regards to next steps and are prepared to act accordingly, as necessary, if the situation develops further,” he said.

“We encourage anyone feeling unwell to self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19 as soon as possible, in line with Queensland Government guidelines.

“As a provider of essential goods and services, Hyperdome currently remains open and trading.”

Queensland Health was also working to identify who may have been in recent contact with the person who tested positive and the Hyperdome said those people would be directly contacted.

Mr Turner said there were signs throughout the centre to remind people how to keep safe and protect others.

He said cleaners were also following the strict federal government Environmental Cleaning and Disinfection rules for COVID-19.
