MOTHER’S Day this month was a sad affair for Hillcrest mum Linda Murray.
Her traditional present of a $150 gift voucher and a card from her disabled son in Melbourne did not arrive in the post.
A strange series of events resulted in her postal package being delivered to another address in the suburb with the money and card going missing.
“Two days after Mother’s Day, my son who has a mobility disease, rang me and asked if I had received his present,” she said.
“I thought he was joking but then I realised he wasn’t and suspected the package had gone astray or was held up in the post.”
After a few phone calls and a trip to the Browns Plains Post Office, Mrs Murray was told her package had been delivered — but to the wrong address and she would not get her money back.
Australia Post staff were not allowed to reveal where the package had been dropped off.
However, a postal tracking number was used to trace the parcel and staff unsuccessfully pursued the matter without being able to retrieve the money or card.
“My son who is not well off, promised to send me another present but I told him not to waste any more money.”
Luckily for Mrs Murray, following a call from The Albert & Logan News, a gallant Australia Post officer based in Melbourne heard of the conundrum and stepped in to save the day.
“Our posties and delivery drivers work hard to ensure customers receive their mail correctly, unfortunately in this instance the item was incorrectly delivered,” the Australia Post spokesman said.
“We have reached out to the customer to apologise and to provide compensation.”
Mrs Murray said she was delighted with the turnaround in events.
