Help send the Christmas spirit to Charlie Lambert, 10, by supporting her GoFundMe fundraiser.

A Queensland girl who was supposed to be embarking on a Make A Wish Disney dream trip is instead in a Brisbane hospital fighting her second bout of cancer. This is her heartbreaking response.

Charlie Lambert, 10, was supposed to spend Christmas on board a Disney Wonder cruise ship but instead she’s undergoing treatment in the Queensland’s Children’s Hospital.

She even brought Disney ears and a costume [for the five-night cruise] but was forced to cancel the wish granted by the Starlight Foundation which has instead transformed into a hospital stay after a cancer relapse.

A tumour has grown back in the same spot where the little girl had her kidney removed last year while fighting stage 1 Wilms Tumour cancer.

Charlie is nine weeks into chemotherapy which makes her violently ill and will receive targeted radiotherapy afterwards.

Single mother Simone Lambert set up a GoFundMe campaign for her daughter so she could spend Christmas Day opening cards and gifts instead of wiping away tears in their Herston unit.

Simone has raised $14,000 so far which has helped pay their Townsville rent, food and bills at a time when the sole carer is unable to work.

“This unexpected shift has left Charlie feeling quite alone, and the usual Christmas joy now seems like a distant memory,” she said.

“I’m asking people to send Christmas cards and letters I want her to spend Christmas Day opening surprises like Roblox Gift Cards.

“Cancer touches everyone in their life but it’s so sad when it happens to children not once but twice.”

Simone said when the pair found out the bad news after a routine check they flew home in shock, packed their bags into three suitcases and came back again.

“Charlie said I think God pressed the back button by accident,” she said.

“I said it is okay I think he did but we’re going to get through it just like the first time.

“She’s got a beautiful smile, big blue eyes and tells good jokes too.

“Her sense of humour gets her through the hospital trips which sometimes last for days and it breaks my heart to see so many children in pain but laughter cheers us both up.

“Every day she tells me she loves me.

“We broke down crying when we were told but I had to pull myself together as a single mum but I try and be brave because I know she’s watching.

“She started losing her hair quickly this time and I had to vacuum it off the bed so Charlie made the decision to shaved it off.

“Charlie has a port-a-cath in her chest so they can give her antibiotics, chemo and blood transfusions through it.

“Charlie’s very smart and is studying year four at the Queensland’s Children’s Hospital School.”

Simone’s heartfelt message on the GoFundMe page said, “we believe in the incredible power of community and the kindness that resides in each of you.”

“Your generous donations will be used to organise special surprises, decorations, and activities to transform Charlie’s accommodation and hospital room into a festive haven, bringing the joy of Christmas directly to her.

“Let’s join hands to bring a smile to Charlie’s face and sprinkle some magic into her Christmas.”

If you’d like to contribute and make a difference in Charlie’s holiday experience, you can send your heartfelt Christmas cards, letters, or small gifts or make a donation online here.
