The red carpet was rolled out and the year 12 students from Browns Plains State High School were treated like Hollywood stars when their high school formal was held at Movie World on the Gold Coast this week.
Buses took 130 students and 30 staff to the function which offered all the glitz and glamour — and disco balls — of stardom.
Year 12 co-ordinator Lisa Collins had to work quickly to find and then book the venue after strict COVID restrictions barred the group from other smaller venues.
Students were able to dance, walk around, have professional photographs, and take their own photographs in front of the cinema and taxi.

A “glitter” wall for more formal photographs was also popular.
The group was seated outside at Movie World’s main street, which was decorated for a white Christmas and was lit up.
A magician performed during the night and staff performed the usual Formal Staff Dance for the students which is featured on the school’s Facebook page.
A creamy ricotta and mushroom dish with salad for entree; steak, or stuffed chicken breast with rosti, broccolini and roasted tomatoes for dinner; and for dessert, a churros stand served the crowd.
Waiters with menu boards around their necks, walked through the crowd, delivering ice-cream cups to all attendees.
“Overall, the night was a spectacular ending to a very difficult and depressing year and was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and staff,” Ms Collins said.
“This formal was especially important to the 2020 cohort as they have not had the chance to partake in many of the usual functions, we have for our Year 12s.
“They have not been able to participate in the Kokoda walk we do every year, have the sleep out that we hold especially for our Year 12’s in Term 3 and many sporting events.
“Our student leaders have not been able to lead the way they wanted to, due to COVID restrictions, and the cancellation of many events.
“This year’s graduating cohort has been the first for compulsory prep, first to begin high school in Grade 7 and the first to partake in ATAR External Exams, and for surviving a global pandemic.
“They have been nothing but hard working, resilient and courageous, putting in 100 per cent into all their schooling and making the most of this year.
“They are an inspirational group of teenagers and the staff at Browns Plains High, though sad to see them leave, are proud of the people they have become and wish nothing but the best for their future endeavours and adventures.”
The students continued the night with a Mystery Tour where they went ice skating at Archerfield, go-kart riding at Game Over, trampolining at Bounce, gaming at TimeZone and ending with a morning sunset on the beach.
They were accompanied with six staff members with a “party” bus and a “sleep” bus, to get the students to where they needed to be and within their own comfort.
