Genevieve LaCaze may have been swept along by the deafening roar of athletic crowds from the Rio Olympic Games to the world championships in London, but nothing will beat performing before an adoring “sea of fans’’ in her home state of Queensland next month.
LaCaze’s family and friends have been madly securing tickets to see Genevieve scamper around the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games athletics track competing in the gruelling 3000m steeplechase.
“Ryan (Gregson, fiance) and my family have been flat out buying as many tickets as they can get their hands on for our events,’’ the John Paul College past student said.
“I have had a lot of friends from school contact me and ask for the competition dates so they can get tickets as well.’’
She has heard the din of a big crowd before but knowing a Queensland crowd is roaring will drive her to heights on the Gold Coast.
“It seems like there will be a sea of fans to cheer me on,’’ she said.
“It’s a great feeling to have a chance to run in front of so many loved ones.’’
The Games’ will be even more special for the Jimboomba athletics club junior after she became to Gregson, a 1500m gun, on Christmas Day.
