Forestdale athlete Alexandra Roberts returned from the Junior Commonwealth Games without a medal but with invaluable knowledge.

The youngest member of the Australian side had to be content with fourth position, a disappointment to the fiercely competitive Roberts who threw 47.04m, well below her personal best of 53.67m.

Her mother, Melissa Roberts, said it was an amazing experience for her daughter and one which would benefit her in the future.

“She expected more from herself and was disappointed in this result but we are very proud of how she performed under the conditions and in a whole new experience for her,’’ Mrs Roberts said. “The first International competition is always the most daunting.

“Every time you compete you learn more about yourself and the sport you compete in and you will only be the better for it.

“She has certainly gained a lot from the experience and this will serve her will for future competitions.’’

Her Brisbane-based coach Brett Green praised her effort while Australian head coach Stephen Cain said “Alex should be very proud’’.
