TAS is running a school-based social media competition and it’s reaching thousands of students, parents and friends as they cheer on their schools with their usual enthusiasm.

The schools enjoy a fierce but friendly rivalry in a variety of inter-school sporting competitions with three seasons of weekend sport and multiple carnivals throughout the year.

The schools have all taken to online learning and incorporated sports.

During the coronavirus lockdown, Logan’s John Paul College coach Joshua Hall has released a Workout Wednesday video, encouraging everyone in a family to exercise using common household items as weights.

He includes fun games for all ages and instruction on correct techniques to ensure a safe workout.

In another innovation, the college’s annual Year Three to Twelve Cross Country competition will take on a virtual format this year.

Not only have students been invited to participate, but staff, parents, caregivers and alumni are also welcome to join with JPC House points awarded for each entry submitted.

“We are encouraging our students and their families to dress in their house colours with points awarded to those who demonstrate the best house spirit,” Mr Hall said.

“At JPC, it’s not always about winning the race but supporting your house and your teammates.”

Families will use a suitable app such as Nike Run Club to record their allocated race distance and time and email to the college to record their entries.

Physical Education teachers have also innovated, developing a Sports Monopoly game.

Students use the Monopoly board and each time they land on a stop they have to perform an activity such as 10 push-ups as part of their workout.
