A Logan man who allegedly terrorised his partner and killed their pet bird has applied for bail after facing charges of choking, assault and serious cruelty to animals.

A Logan man who allegedly terrorised his partner and killed their pet bird has applied for bail after facing charges including serious cruelty to animals.

David Savoldi, 34, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 6 charged with choking, assault occasioning bodily harm and serious animal cruelty (domestic violence offences).

Police alleged Savoldi choked and assaulted his partner on May 14 in Buccan and killed a pet bird.

His lawyer, Lee Quinn, applied for bail due to a change in Savoldi’s circumstances.

The court heard he planned to move to NSW if granted bail and had a job opportunity waiting for him.

Mr Quinn said his client would contest the charges and was at risk of serving too much time in custody due to court delays.

But police prosecutor Tahlia Boettcher said there was no change in circumstances since Savoldi’s bail application on May 15.

“Just because he has further bail conditions doesn’t constitute a change in circumstances,” she said.

“He’s not at risk of serving too much time and Queensland Police cannot enforce the law in NSW.”

Magistrate Michael O’Driscoll acknowledged arguments from both prosecution and defence.

“I accept there will be a substantial delay but there is no change in circumstances,” he said.

He refused bail and adjourned the matter for mention at Beaudesert Magistrates Court on July 4.
