A Slacks Creek tree lopper has spent his 22nd birthday behind bars after getting caught on CCTV breaking into a home and taking off in a stolen car.

David Junior Eggmolesse, 22, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Tuesday to nine charges including enter dwelling and commit indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and fraud.

The court heard he was captured on CCTV footage attempting to break into a property in Ormeau on November 8, 2021.

The footage showed Eggmolesse placing a glove over one of his hands and attempting to open the locked front door before attempting to get through the side window.

The court heard on the same day he was caught breaking into a residence again.

He was caught on CCTV entering the residence through the back door before he took a set of car keys and used them to drive off in a parked vehicle in the drive way.

The court heard Eggmolesse went on to use a stolen credit card from the home to make a number of transactions over the next half an hour.

He was later found with a set of stolen car keys on January 20, 2022.

Magistrate Louise Shephard said his offending was aggravated due to him being subject to a suspended sentence of imprisonment at the time for offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle and fraud.

Eggmolesse’s lawyer said his client had spent a significant portion of the last two years going in and out of custody.

He said his father operated his own tree lopping business and he would be working for him upon release.

He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment with a parole release date on May 30.

The 32 days he spent in pre-sentenced custody was declared time served and his suspended terms of imprisonment were activated.
