Scientific reports linked to the death of a man allegedly bashed to death with a gym weight in Mt Tamborine could take nine months to produce, while investigators work through “significant quantities of evidence and CCTV footage”, a court has heard.

Gold Coast man Daniel Robert McJannett, 36, is accused by police of bashing his friend Matthew Berry, 37, to death with a gym weight last month.

Mr McJannett faced court today — the same day as Mr Berry’s funeral — where a magistrate heard it would take months for prosecution to build their case.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Stephen Cochrane told Beenleigh Magistrates Court a long adjournment would be required to obtain evidence.

“The scientific statement is nine months away and there is significant quantities of evidence and CCTV footage,” said Sgt Cochrane.

Police allege Mr Berry was beaten to death with a gym weight and his body was tragically discovered by his ex-partner Edwina.
