Cunningham Hwy closed near Kelly Rd, Silverdale after truck fire

A busy part of a highway in the Gold Coast hinterland, connecting to Ipswich and Brisbane, has been shut in both directions after a truck was destroyed by a fire this morning.

A busy part of a highway in the Gold Coast hinterland, connecting to Ipswich and Brisbane, has been shut in both directions after a truck was destroyed by a fire this morning.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were called to the scene of a truck fire just off the Cunningham Hwy, near Kelly Rd at Silverdale in the Scenic Rim.

The first crew arrived on scene at 5.35am to find a B-double truck and trailer fully engulfed by fire.

Three crews are presently on scene.

A QFES spokesman said they had put the fire out.

Police are also at the scene managing traffic as the fire closed the Cunningham Hwy in both directions near Kelly Rd.

Part of the highway still remains closed.

The Queensland Ambulance Service did not attend. A spokeswoman confirmed there were no patients who needed treating.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said it was non-suspicious.
