PARK RIDGE COVID CASE CONFIRMED
Queensland Health said contact tracing was underway at Parklands Christian College which has told students to stay away and said the school was closed today.
It is still not known whether just people who came into contact with the woman will be tested or whether wider testing throughout the community will take place.
Logan City councillor for the area Jacob Heremaia said there was concern in the community about the outbreak and said residents would wait for an update from Queensland Health this morning.
Cr Heremaia, who has an electorate office at Park Ridge Shopping Centre, said members of the public have asked him for details about where the woman had been and where she had contracted the virus.
He said Logan City Council and his office had been in contact with Queensland Health and would be updated during the day.
“I think it is a concern to see that we have a case in Logan … but the good news is we are staying calm and focusing on the solution,” he said.
“ … from what I’ve seen, everyone is practising social distancing on the ground and using hand sanitiser everywhere,” he said.
Cr Heremaia said he did not know what role the woman played at the school but said the close-knit community had been hit hard by the news.
He urged anyone concerned about the virus spreading in Logan should contact Queensland Health. on 134 268.
A letter from the school confirmed the female staff member had been diagnosed with the infection after returning to Queensland from interstate.
She is working closely with Queensland Health and is in isolation.
The letter also tells parents to isolate unwell members of their family immediately.
Queensland Health said the school would temporarily close until further notification to allow for cleaning and work will commence on contact tracing.
Queensland Health is also working to determine where the virus may have been acquired, including working with the woman to gather necessary information about places she may have visited while infectious.
“As always, we strongly recommend everyone with symptoms to immediately get tested,” Queensland Health said.
The new case brings the Queensland COVID-19 total to 1077, with six active case across the state.
