What to expect from COVID post-vaccination

Free Pfizer vaccines will be offered at the Logan Entertainment Centre over the weekend - but only to those who register and meet special criteria.

Logan was one of three centres the state government said would open this weekend to boost the number of immunised health workers.

The weekend opening follows news this week that only 60 per cent of residential aged care staff in Redland and Logan had been vaccinated and revelations that many local politicians had also not been vaccinated.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath warned anyone else to stay away.

She said the vaccines were for frontline health workers, aged care and disability staff or those aged between 40 and 49 who have registered and booked online and she asked anyone else not to go.

“We are not going to waste vaccine at the end of the day ... so if there’s noone else waiting,” she said.

“But the message is for the group that we want coming out this weekend.”

A third of Aussie adults are unlikely to get COVID vaccination

Logan, along with Springfield Towers and the Rocklea Showgrounds will be opened on Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm to give out the free Pfizer jabs.

Ms D’Ath said bookings allowed medcial staff at teh three centres to control queues and decrease waiting times.

Those who want to get the vaccine and are not a health worker or in the 40-49-year-age bracket should contact their GP.

The state hopes to have more than 15,000 aged care workers and those in the age group vaccinated over the weekend at the trhee sites.

A spokeswoman for the minister said people must register online to secure a booking to get the vaccine at Logan.

“Walk-in spots are very limited and may require a long wait time as people with bookings will be prioritised,” she said.

People were told to allow for about 45 mins for an appointment which includes time for your patient screening, vaccination and observation after the injection.

The Logan Entertainment Centre is at 170 Wembley Rd, Logan Central.

Springfield Tower is at 145 Sinnathamby Blvd, Springfield Central and is for those aged under 50 and will open Monday to Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

Rocklea Showgrounds is at Goburra St and Ipswich Rd, Rocklea and is ALSO open to all ages from Tuesday to Thursday from 10.30am to 5.30pm and Friday to Saturday 7.30am to 2.30pm but on the weekend just to those under 50.
