Christmas has come early for parents at a Logan school, with news that a “chaotic” carpark will be fixed in time for Term 1 next year.
The carpark at Burrowes State School is renowned for causing traffic gridlock during early morning drop offs and afternoon pick ups.
Logan councillor Jon Raven has witnessed the congestion first-hand.
"What happens is there is only room for one car to come out and if one person tried to turn right the whole carpark grinds to a halt for about 15 minutes,” he said.
But traffic flow should be improved now that Cr Raven has thrown in $77,000 of divisional funding to widen the carpark exit to two lanes.
The work, that also includes line marking and a new concrete median strip, will begin this month and is expected to be completed by January 28 — in time for the start of Term 1.
Cr Raven said he pushed for the improvements after a number of requests from frustrated parents like Erin Gardner.
The Marsden resident has three children at Burrowes State School and has been held up to almost 20 minutes trying to get out of the carpark.
“It can be very chaotic in the afternoons. You have kids weaving in and out of the carpark and people waiting for everyone to turn right,” Ms Gardner said.
“Having the new exit will clear up congestion in the carpark and make the traffic more free-flowing.”
