PCYC Queensland chief executive officer Phil Schultz said Logan PCYC would be relocated from its existing home in Logan Central.

“We will hand back our current facility to Logan City Council and move into the new PCYC Logan club facility when it is ready in 2021,” he said.

“We are thrilled with the concept plans and now the start of construction, and we look forward to supporting more young people and the community through our activities and programs and outside school hours care.

“Support from the Queensland Government and Logan City Council for this new facility allows PCYC Queensland to continue delivering our vision of building safer, healthier communities through youth development, and aligns perfectly with their priorities of keeping Queensland communities healthy, safe and active.”

Logan Mayor Darren Power said the state handed the site to the council which had worked with the PCYC to design a building to suit many needs.

The 4700 sqm modern, single-level building will enable the PCYC to deliver a range of services and activities from their after-school care program through to martial arts.

It also includes a gymnastics hall for up to 70 people – the largest in the city.

The delivery of the PCYC aligns with Logan City Council’s Active Logan Strategy 2016 2028, which encourages people to lead active, healthy lives.

Sports Minister Mick de Brenni said the PCYC would benefit a wide cross section of the community, including during its construction.

“More than 42 full-time jobs will be supported through the construction of the PCYC, which will be an important community hub – a place where people of all ages, from all walks of life can come to engage in fun, physical activities together.”

Woodridge MP Cameron Dick said the local jobs being created by the project were of huge importance during the COVID pandemic.
