A 41-year-old man committed to stand trial for alleged possession of child exploitation material plans on calling no witnesses, a court has heard.
Appearing at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday (July 4) Hillcrest man Anthony George Trevelyan said little as he was committed to stand trial at Beenleigh District Court at a date to be announced by The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Trevelyan faces a single charge of possessing child exploitation material.
Police will allege he was in possession of the material on September 24, 2020 in Hillcrest.
The court heard the defendant did not plan on calling witnesses.
“The notation I called on said you will not be calling witnesses and that you will self-represent until today, knowing that these matters are being committed to the District Court,” magistrate Tracy Mossop said.
“I have read the material and I am of the opinion that the evidence is sufficient to put you on trial for an indictable offence.”
Trevelyan declined to make any statements other than to agree he understood the nature of the proceedings.
He was released on committal bail.
