A pregnant Logan fraudster is back in court again after she “preyed upon” her unemployed friends and scammed them out of $18,000 after promising them a job with her.

Andrea Dedic, 31, of Cornubia, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday to two counts of fraud.

The court heard Dedic dishonestly obtained $18,737 in total from two friends.

In one of the incidents she obtained money from a friend in Eagleby between March 15, 2020, and on November 4, 2020, she obtained a mobile phone and money from a friend on an unknown date.

Magistrate Ian McKenzie said Dedic had “preyed upon” innocent, unemployed people to the extent of $10,987 and $7,750 each with the lure of them gaining employment with her in a “fanciful position” in circumstances that were untruthful.

“You yourself should have known and understood at the time, being unemployed yourself, the circumstances those people were in,” he said.

The court heard Dedic was convicted of fraud on January 22, 2021, after claiming to be able to source discounted Apple products and took more than $15,000 from three hapless friends.

Dedic’s lawyer told the court his client and parents were now attempting to resolve the matters and compensate the victims for the full amount.

“She at the time wasn’t employed, she had told the victims that she was employed in a circumstance whereby she could offer further employment to them,” he said.

“That was the pretext for which the fraud was perpetrated. She at the time though didn’t have permanent employment.”

The court heard Dedic was now working in administration at Wormald but was preparing to go on maternity leave to give birth at the end of October.

She was convicted and given an 18-month suspended sentence. She was also ordered to pay $10,987 and $7,750 in compensation to the victims within 28 days.
