The strange tale of a missing pooch has seen a young Logan woman face court and be handed a fine, after she bizarrely stole her housemate’s dog then helped them look for it.

Alyssa Rose Baker pleaded guilty to one count of stealing in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on November 17.

The court heard that the 20-year-old Yarrabilba woman stole her housemate’s dog in Bethania on July 19.

She took the dog, put it in her car and hid it at her mother’s house.

Baker then received Facebook messages from her housemates asking if she’d seen the dog and to help look for it.

Baker then returned to the home and helped her two housemates search for the missing pet, while it remained hidden at her mum’s house.

The court heard Baker had been living at the share house since July 17 and the pet had only been with the owners since July 12.

Magistrate Mark Howden was perplexed by the circumstances of the offending.

“Why would she do this?” he said.

“This has to go through the criminal justice system does it, there is no other way to deal with it?”

The court heard Baker worked as a hairdresser and had no criminal history.

The dog was eventually returned to its owners and Baker was fined $300.

No conviction was recorded.
